Bathrooms are a challenge for any ceiling
High humidity, hot steam, direct contact with water. A bathroom is an environment where ordinary ceiling solutions quickly give up. Paint yellows and peels, drywall swells and develops mould. And this is precisely where stretch ceilings excel.
Why choose a stretch ceiling for your bathroom?
Absolute waterproofing
The PVC film of a stretch ceiling is 100% waterproof. It withstands steam, moisture and direct contact with water. It can even catch water in the event of a leak from the flat above: the film bulges but doesn't let a single drop through.
No mould
Unlike drywall or traditional plaster, mould doesn't form on the surface of a stretch ceiling. The material is antibacterial and non-hygroscopic — it doesn't absorb moisture.
Chlorine resistance
For pool halls and wellness areas, chlorine resistance is essential. Stretch ceilings offer this resistance as standard.
Design options for bathrooms
A bathroom doesn't have to be a boring white room. With a stretch ceiling, you have several interesting options:
Sky-print ceiling
Imagine lying in the bathtub and looking up at a blue sky with clouds. A translucent ceiling with photo print and LED backlighting creates this effect perfectly. It's one of our most popular solutions for bathrooms.
Glossy surface for visual enlargement
Small bathroom? A glossy (highly reflective) stretch ceiling visually enlarges the room thanks to its mirror effect. It reflects light and the space below, creating an impression of greater height.
Integrated LED lighting
Recessed spot lights or LED strips directly in the ceiling. Clean design with no visible fixtures. In a bathroom, this is not only aesthetic but also practical: no fixture to fog up.
Frequently asked questions
Can a stretch ceiling handle hot steam from the shower?
Yes. The film is designed for temperatures from −40 °C to +80 °C. Normal shower steam won't affect it in any way.
How do you clean a stretch ceiling in a bathroom?
Just wipe occasionally with a damp cloth or mild cleaning agent. No special maintenance is needed.
Can I have spot lights in the bathroom ceiling?
Of course. Spot lights, LED strips and even chandeliers can be integrated into a stretch ceiling in the bathroom. We use lights with appropriate IP ratings (IP44 and above).
What if my neighbour floods my flat?
A stretch ceiling can hold up to 100 litres of water per 1 m² of surface. The film bulges like a balloon but doesn't let the water through. A technician then safely drains the water and the ceiling returns to its original shape.
Case study: bathroom with sky-print ceiling
One of our favourite projects is a bathroom in Frýdek-Místek, where we installed a translucent ceiling with a blue sky photograph and LED backlighting. The space of just 8 m² feels airy and open as a result.
Client Jana M. said about the project: "The result exceeded expectations. The bathroom now looks like it's from a showroom."
How much does a stretch ceiling for a bathroom cost?
The price depends on the bathroom size and chosen surface:
| Surface | Price from |
|---|---|
| Matte | 800 CZK/m² |
| Glossy | 900 CZK/m² |
| Translucent | 900 CZK/m² (1,800 CZK/m² with protective film) |
| Custom print | 1,130 CZK/m² (800 surface + 330 print) |
All prices are VAT-exclusive, including material and installation. For a typical bathroom (6–10 m²), the total price ranges from 4,800 to 18,000 CZK.
Conclusion
The bathroom is the room where a stretch ceiling makes the most sense. Waterproofing, mould resistance, easy maintenance and design flexibility — these are arguments that traditional ceiling solutions simply cannot offer.
